Breast cancer will affect 1 in 8 women. Eating a plant based diet; reducing alcohol intake, not storing food in plastic, and avoiding skin products with toxic ingredients are great ways to prevent breast cancer.
Aside from these we can incorporate some simple routines that can further help in the prevention of this disease.
SOY. 95% of breast cancers are hormone dependent. Soy inhibits the production of estrogen by reducing the levels of aromatase enzymes.
In premenopausal women soy blocks the binding of estrogen to cancer cells, after menopause when cancer produces its own estrogen it inhibits the production. Soy is considered more effective in reducing estrogen production and binding than pharmaceutical aromatase inhibitors.
The effectiveness of soy explains why Japanese and Chinese women have a much lower rate of breast cancer.
Soy is better consumed fermented, as miso soup, soy sauce, or tempeh. The benefit is lasting so it doesn’t have to be consumed every day.
FLAX SEED. Lignans in flax seed reduce the risk of cancer by suppressing the proliferation of cancer cells. Vegetable lignans have to be transformed in human lignans in the gut. The use of antibiotics reduces the production of these plant based lignans; women with UTI’s that take several courses of antibiotics are at a higher risk of breast cancer.
A couple of TBS of golden or brown freshly ground flax seed daily are enough to protect from cancer.
BROCCOLI. Cancer stem cells are not killed by radiation or chemotherapy, breast cancer can come back even 20 to 25 years after the first episode. Broccoli contains a substance called sulforaphane that inhibits breast cancer stem cells. Broccoli sprouts are an easy way of incorporating more broccoli into the diet.
IODINE. An important part of breast cancer prevention; iodine reverses fibrocystic breast, ovarian and thyroid cyst. It binds to specific substances on the cell membrane. These substances called lactones regulate normal cell death, having a potent antineoplastic effect on the progression of breast cancer.
DRY SKIN BRUSHING. Stimulates the lymphatic system promoting detoxification. When the lymphatic system is not working properly the body accumulates toxins becoming more prone to getting sick. Dry brushing should be done with a natural fiber brush. Starting from the feet the entire body is brushed, until light pink, towards the heart. Aside from aiding detoxification, dry brushing improves circulation, exfoliates the skin and reduces cellulite.
BREAST MASSAGE. Pressure alone can revert and stop the out of control growth of cancer cells. Women in Asia have been using breast massage for over 2,000 years.
